I strive to make work without irony, to present objects and images that play with uneasy material relationships. Somewhere between figurative and structural, they appear to be living and fabricated, static and mobile. I know I am on the right track when I am slightly embarrassed about my material combinations and their potential for metaphor, from revealing my attraction to surface and color combinations and what those concoctions suggest. Wood, industrial foams, Plexiglas, yarn, paint: materials are specifically chosen for their industrial, historical, and pedestrian lineage. Hierarchies of taste and importance are introduced in order to be leveled.
Currently, my interests lie in posing a geometric order to chaos. Amorphous fluids and texture are wrangled by hard edges and planes. By incorporating the elements that represent ideas I oppose such as order, cleanliness and clear intention, I am displaying the battle between control and flux.
